In this publication, we offer 1) “Does High Seas Drama Portend Economic Doom for the U.S.?” by Dr. George Koo; and “The Last Generation of Nei Di Ren” by Huai-Nan Xin.
Starting from this month, we introduce a new feature. Instead of posting 9 photos every month in the Photo Section, we have made a special link to www.lcscapes.com, which contains many nice photos taken by Michel A. Van Hove over the years to bring you to cities and beautiful landscapes throughout the world, and with an emphasis on his trips made in China. He will most likely post his new photos on a semi-annual basis. So keep your eyes open and I wish you enjoy viewing these beautiful photos!
Also, in the Music Section, we wish you to enjoy the wonderful piece of western violin music Czardas (查爾達什舞曲) by Italian composer Vittorio Monti (1868 –1922) - played with Chinese instrument called Erhu (二胡) by top-class musician Ke Xu (許可) [二胡獨奏].
From Jim Glaser
Actually since I did not stay through Slumdog Millionaire, I think I should not comment on the film, except to say that it is not possible for me to sit through a film which depicts graphic torture and sadistic violence toward children, of whatever country. Many people in the world live brutally dehumanizing lives, probably that was what the film was trying to point out.
From the Editor
Your sympathy is well understood. But author Yi-Cheng Chang warned readers that the film exploited that situation, made a huge profit, and at the same time degraded the humanity of the Indian people.
